L-band Wind Profiler Radar

L-band Wind Profiler Radar

The L-Band Wind Profiler Radar is a dedicated radar system for atmospheric wind field detection across the lower troposphere. It performs real-time, continuous profiling of horizontal wind speed, wind direction, and vertical airflow from 50 m above ground level up to 6–8 km altitude, providing stable upper-air wind observation data for meteorological support operations. The system is available in both fixed-station and rapidly deployable mobile station configurations.

Description

The L-Band Wind Profiler Radar is a dedicated radar system for atmospheric wind field detection across the lower troposphere. It performs real-time, continuous profiling of horizontal wind speed, wind direction, and vertical airflow from 50 m above ground level up to 6–8 km altitude, providing stable upper-air wind observation data for meteorological support operations. The system is available in both fixed-station and rapidly deployable mobile station configurations.

Key Features

  • L-band pulsed Doppler architecture - combined with a fully coherent low-phase-noise frequency synthesizer, all-solid-state transmitter, digital IF receiver, and clutter suppression processor, the system achieves high-precision, stable detection of atmospheric turbulence echoes across the full lower tropospheric detection range
  • Advanced secondary product generation - onboard wind data quality control and intelligent identification algorithms output derived meteorological products including wind shear and low-level jet stream detection, significantly enhancing real-time meteorological support capability
  • Mobile station rapid deployment - the mobile configuration integrates automatic north-finding, automatic leveling, and automatic antenna erection and stowage functions, enabling rapid setup and pack-down for emergency meteorological support, field operations, and other time-critical deployment scenarios

Application fields

The L-Band Wind Profiler Radar supplies steady wind data ranging from 50 meters to 8 kilometers to enrich numerical weather models and boost forecast precision. It tracks wind changes along flight routes and sends instant risk alerts for airport takeoff and landing. The portable unit sets itself up fast with automatic calibration, ready to serve disaster zones and remote field spots. Layered wind data helps trace pollutant movement over cities and rugged lands. Detailed wind readings at fan working heights evaluate wind conditions and estimate power output for wind farms. It also keeps steady wind monitoring for coastal waters and offshore facilities. Flexible resolution settings fit various atmospheric studies and joint field observation tasks perfectly.

Why Choose Our L-Band Wind Profiler Radar

Maximum altitude of 8,000m - The maximum range of detection of this instrument is 8,000 metres which means that it is able to provide wind profile information from both the surface and the full lower layer of the troposphere. In this way, the instrument has a wider measurement envelope than boundary layer profilers would have.

The Minimum Detection Altitude of 50 m - Near-surface wind measurement from a starting point of 50 m or less provides very detailed wind measurements of the lowest boundary layer. this altitude is important for aviation because of safety, pollutant dispersion from the location of the emission source, and determining the wind turbine hub-height.

All-Coherent Low-Phase-Noise System - The system will improve the ability to measure Doppler velocity and reject clutter over a wide range of altitudes. The range of altitudes will include 6 to 8 kilometers, where atmospheric return signals will be significantly reduced in strength.

Mobile Station can find its own position; Therefore, users do not need external survey equipment or manually set up procedures, thus, it allows the mobile unit to be operationally ready very quickly at an unprepared site without any expert technical support.
