Technical Characteristics of the BeiDou Sounding System

During the research and development of the BeiDou sounding system, researchers improved the radiation-shielding coating materials for the temperature sensors, thereby enhancing the accuracy of high-altitude temperature measurements from the 1°C level typical of GPS sounding systems to within 0.5°C.

Developed upon the technical platform of the GPS sounding system, the BeiDou sounding system utilizes positioning data provided by the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System to calculate wind fields, altitude, and atmospheric pressure. When necessary, it can simultaneously receive positioning data from GPS for mutual cross-calibration, thereby enhancing the measurement accuracy of relevant meteorological parameters. Compared to GPS sounding systems, the BeiDou system demonstrates significantly improved calibration efficiency, as well as substantial enhancements in data consistency and product qualification rates.
