The Number Of Low-altitude Economic Meteorological Products Has Reached 53.

Since the beginning of this year, meteorological support for my country's low-altitude economy has rapidly transitioned from technical R&D to operational application. Currently, 3D real-time low-altitude wind field products-featuring 5-meter spatial resolution and 5-minute update intervals-have been deployed across 17 provinces. The national portfolio of low-altitude meteorological products now totals 53, covering over 150 scenarios across 10 categories, including public services, transportation operations, and emergency rescue.

For drones characterized by short flight times and limited operational ranges, traditional meteorological products-typically operating at 100-meter and hourly scales-struggle to capture the fine-grained wind field dynamics found between buildings, within valleys, and at varying flight altitudes. Addressing these specific needs, the relevant R&D team at the China Meteorological Administration set precise targets for the products: a horizontal resolution of 5 meters, a vertical resolution of 2 meters, and a 5-minute update frequency. By integrating multi-source data-such as wind-profiling lidar, urban canopy parameters, and building specifications-and overcoming challenges related to data quality control, urban wind field modeling, and cross-domain data fusion, the team successfully brought these meter-scale 3D real-time low-altitude wind field products from concept to practical application.
