Components of A Wind Power Forecasting System

A wind power forecasting system primarily consists of five major subsystems: data acquisition, numerical weather forecasting, power forecasting, communications, and monitoring and management.

 

1. Data Acquisition Subsystem
Responsible for collecting operational and meteorological data from the wind farm. Operational data includes parameters such as turbine power output, rotational speed, and blade pitch angle; meteorological data encompasses wind speed, wind direction, air temperature, air pressure, and other variables. Data sources include meteorological masts, weather stations, satellite imagery, and similar sources.

 

2. Numerical Weather Forecasting Subsystem
Receives numerical weather forecast data provided by meteorological agencies and simulates and predicts future weather conditions within the wind farm's region over a specific timeframe, thereby providing the meteorological foundation for wind power forecasting.

 

3. Power Forecasting Subsystem
Utilizes collected historical and real-time data-combined with numerical weather forecast information-to predict the wind farm's power output. This is achieved through the application of physical models, statistical models, or hybrid models that integrate both approaches.

 

4. Communications Subsystem
Facilitates information transmission among the various subsystems, as well as between the system and external entities, ensuring the real-time availability and accuracy of the data. It transmits acquired data to the forecasting system while simultaneously sending the generated forecast results to relevant dispatch departments or monitoring centers.

 

5. Monitoring and Management Subsystem
Provides real-time monitoring and management of the operational status of the entire wind power forecasting system. This includes functions such as data quality control, system fault diagnosis and alarming, and the evaluation and analysis of forecast results.
